MASSACHUSETTS
Merrimack River/Great Salt Marsh
Parker River National Wildlife Refuge
Salt marshes are among the most biodiverse and productive ecosystems on earth, and we’ll take you there for a firsthand look! Explore the largest contiguous salt marsh north of Chesapeake Bay with a full complement of scientific equipment. Recount the natural history of the marsh, from the Wisconsin Glaciaton of 15,000 years ago to present day. Analyze, compare, and contrast the fresher water upriver with the saltier water where it meets the open
Atlantic Ocean. Watch the playful harbor seals fishing at the mouth of
the river or basking on the rocks at low tide. See for yourself why the
Parker River National WildlifeRefuge is one of the top five birding sites in North America!
